Rich (Ricardo):

I am so glad I moved to Mexico 6 years ago.

Good health care at 20-30% of the price of the USA.
My doctors all trained in the US, but are also open to alternative medicine.
They still make house calls if needed, and several hospitals have CAT scans, MRI's etc just like in the US, and they take Medicare.

Here the doctors actually seem interested in taking care of patients, not covering their asses.
(When a doctor can't be sued for millions of dollars it frees them to do their job.)

Medicines are also much cheaper. Exactly the same meds, from the same companies as you buy in the USA.
High quality generics are even cheaper.

Better weather, fresh, cheap, organic food, and a lifestyle conducive to exercise, relaxation, and proper sleep also help considerably.

Oh, it costs about 20% to live here in the same or better conditions than it does in California.
Come be a legal immigrant. You won't regret it.

I too am disabled and receive medicare a & b and also medicaid, luckily for me I have rec'd everything I ever needed, inlcuding 3 different 90 day stays in patient at ucsd & in a dying condition-19 days in ICU alone. However, B4 I even got SSI/SSDI and had zero insurance not even county aid...I got sick w/ staph infections, heart infection, kidney abscess pneumonia etc. and spent 89 days in patient in a solo room and never even saw a bill for it. the social worker from small hospital came to my room, filled out all paperwork and I was totally taken care of. This incident was in 1989. the last 90 day stay was '97 at UCSD and I had medi/medi already which did cover ambulance after they sent me a bill I just sent them my medicare #. I live in san diego, which is flooded by illegals. But I also have 2 working stiff brothers trying to support their families luckily they have coverage from work cause my 1 bro is a 9/11 wtc survivor & was injured needing 3 surgeries-he got the help he needed BUT I ALSO know many of the 1st responders were denied by their own dept.s..like police, fire etc. Too many do suffer but I think there is help available cause I got it B4 SSDI and was unenmployed, no $, no car etc. IF the darn liberals wouldnt rag so much about our enemies in Guantanamo then maybe we could help OUR OWN rather than those animals but aclu's etc. would scream till their blue in the face. They prefer to help our enemies and give them OUR rights and leave americans to rot in hell.

I guess we all should claim to be illegal immigrants if we want any hope for a better life in this country! We seem to take better care of everyone else than ourselves. Shame on us!

I am disabled and it took 3 tries before I was approved for social security disablity and I have worked since I was 14 years old!! My medicare insurance doesn't cover hardly anything so my disability check goes to pay off the mountain of medical bills that I have.

Hey James,
There is NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT WORKING 3 JOBS.
4 years ago i was working 4 jobs.....7 days a week.
I still could not afford health care. America should take care of there own first, but they dont.
To those of you that can afford health care and only work 1 job...you have NO idea. They had kids care...that helped...but god forbid if the parent got sick. Try going to a GYN and finding out you have to have surgery..and you have NO insurnace.
BEEN THERE...DONE THAT.
You just shouldnt have to work more then 1 full time job to make it in U.S.A.
Something has to change.
U.S.A. should take care of there own first, instead of pumping money and goods into other countries, while some americans need the help.

Cheryl:

I agree somewhat with Crystal. If we're going to get on a soapbox about what's too high, don't just stop with healthcare. Most people could pay a good chunk on healthcare with the money they throw to Hollywood--movies, satellite t.v., the electronics to watch it on, etc. And let's not forget to mention how much healthcare is needed due to people vegetating in front of the t.v. instead of exercising. And those commercials that cause us to buy more junk food to eat while we sit there. Could be spending quality time with our families, some of whom will probably need healthcare to deal with the emotional distress due to a lack of family time. Yeah, this healthcare thing could go a lot of different ways. Docs and hospitals charge too much and take advantage of insurance companies who take advantage of us. I don't believe the government should provide free health care, but I do think they should put their foot down on how much can be charged.

Sarah P.:

I love Michael Moore! He's from my home town of Flint, MI. I personally think that he's one of a dying breed of honest journalists that aren't afraid of telling the truth. I hope that he never allows himself to be intimidated by The Man!

Jancy:

There are so many stories I could relate to you about the health care system that I don't really know where to begin.I guess the main problem I have with it is the enormous profits that are gained by the industry. I dont much like it, but I can live with the tremendous profits of other industrys. But when it comes to health I cant accept the fact they are making that much money off the backs of the elderly, the sick, and the dying.I have a problem with that concept. I do understand that profit is the idea but there is a fine line between profit and greed. The health industry has definetly crossed that line many times and they seem not to even have a shred of shame or care.

How do these CEO's and associates who make million & millions off of sickness sleep at night. I cant imagine not having some sort of guilt knowing that a person has dyed because they could't afford the medications, go to the hospital, or see a doctor. Very sad indeed. What happened to the idea of serving humanity and taking care of our people and do it within reason. Again Very Sad Indeed.

Ginger:

You never know what tactic to take in trying to get decent health care.
- say pretty please?
- incessant persistance by calling or writting letters & emails
- send pictures
-have your friends and family send affidavits

All I can say is thank God for Google, the medical sites, the RX sites and playing doctor and nurse for my family.

I'm thinking perhaps we could all just visit our pets doctor and get drugs through the back door. I saw in the news last night that one dog got Viagra for heart probs. That was the original use for Viagra by the way.

crystal williams:

I'm glad as hell that Michael Moore is the way he is and is not afraid to make documentaries/movies like this. I'm glad he's not afraid to stand up to people/companies and stand up for what he believes and for what's right. Who else is gonna do it? But how much $$ does he get for doing it? It's not only doctors who are getting paid too much, it's actors, and musicians and directors...etc. I'm not saying we should abandon our stars. I'm all about getting that latest John Mayer cd and all. But If America cared more about our health care situation and less about Hollywood maybe some of that millions and millions and millions of $$ that actors get paid could go toward the health care issue/economy. Do they really need all that bling? I could rant about this for a long time, but I've gotta get ready to visit the in-laws today. I'll probably get commented back about this, but It's only my opinion.

Mary Haught:

Wow what can be said, medical care should be there for those who need it with out it costing an arm and a leg, but when a Dr.spends an average of like 2 minutes if that with each patient and makes $50. $60. or more each time and that is to ask the patient what is wrong with them, what they are doing about it, and the say ok keep doing that; and then charge them for taking up space, is enough to make any one sick.

Think about it Dr. and drug companies don't want people to get well and be healthy........ then they would be out of work.

nora martin:

PHARMASUDICAL COMPANIES,are to blame for the medical health problems we have, just think about it: scripts are outrageous, injections are outrageous, these companies and there prices affect all medical care, they supply our hospitals and clinics with medical supples, from drugs,iv's. cotton swabs, to rubber gloves, this is what makes medical insurance premiums so high, one single pill can cost up to 100$ or more, one injection can cost up to 2000$ or more, don't tell me that these items cost this much to make! DRUG COMPANIES BOO!!!!! why do our elected official let this go on? drug companies make BILLIONS, THIS IS WHAT SHOULD BE CONTROLLED. then insuance would not be so expensive, we all could afford it,

this really PI--ES ME OFF!!

wendy:

Hey James, this a very big and ugly can of worms!I can't even comment cause it runs to deep with me.By the way did Bush actually say something about ob/gyn's not being able to treat the women they love? His staff should've proof read that cause it sounds disgusting.I'm fighting health care problems right now. You'd think being very ill is hard enough but then if you can't work and have to rely on medical insurance it's impossible!I'm not a wel-fare receiptant(and i'm not saying theres anything wrong with that guys)but i recently read a thing on your blog about how that hospital in Texas gives out tons of free health care to illegals.I'd have no problem if it was an emergency but it's used for all of their health care.It went into the details about how much is paid out on pregnancy and delivering the babies.I couldn't even get my pain medicine today cause the insurance company said it was 1 day early. The pharmacy they make me use is closed on week-ends and Monday is a holiday.Maybe someday health care can change(i doubt it)i wish i wasn't 2 sick 2 work cause then i'd have"real"insurance.
